General Questions

What is HSRP?

HSRP (High Security Registration Plate) is a tamper-proof number plate made of aluminum with a unique identification number. It's mandatory for all vehicles in India as per the Motor Vehicles Act. HSRPs have several security features including:

  • A chromium-based hologram of the Ashoka Chakra
  • A laser-branded permanent identification number
  • A non-removable snap lock
  • Hot-stamped film with "India" inscription

Why is HSRP mandatory?

HSRP has been made mandatory by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to:

  • Prevent vehicle theft and fraud
  • Standardize vehicle registration plates across the country
  • Make vehicle identification easier for law enforcement agencies
  • Reduce the use of fake number plates in criminal activities

What is the difference between regular number plates and HSRP?

Regular number plates are simple metal or plastic plates without security features. HSRP plates have several security features that make them tamper-proof and difficult to counterfeit, including:

  • Non-removable snap-lock fasteners
  • Chromium-based hologram
  • Laser-branded permanent identification number
  • Reflective film for better visibility
  • Standardized fonts and dimensions

What happens if I don't install HSRP on my vehicle?

Driving a vehicle without HSRP is a violation of the Motor Vehicles Act. Traffic authorities can impose fines ranging from ₹500 to ₹1,000 depending on the state regulations. In some cases, repeated violations may lead to more severe penalties.

What is the color-coded fuel sticker on HSRP?

The color-coded fuel sticker on HSRP indicates the fuel type and registration year of your vehicle. This helps in identifying the pollution norms followed by the vehicle:

  • Light Blue: Petrol/CNG vehicles
  • Orange: Diesel vehicles
  • Grey: Electric/Hybrid vehicles

The sticker also contains information about the registration year and the registration number.

What should I do if my HSRP is damaged or lost?

  1. File a First Information Report (FIR) at the nearest police station
  2. Apply for a duplicate HSRP through our website

  4. Pay the applicable fee for a duplicate HSRP

The process for getting a duplicate HSRP is similar to the original booking process.

Can I transfer my HSRP to another vehicle?

What happens to my HSRP if I sell my vehicle?

When you sell your vehicle, the HSRP remains with the vehicle as it is linked to the vehicle's registration. The new owner will need to update the vehicle registration in their name, but they can continue to use the same HSRP as long as the registration number remains the same.
